A Textual Commentary On John 4:4
(a) The country of the Samaritans lay between Judaea and Galilee, so that a person journeying from the one region to the other, unless he were prepared to make a detour, must necessarily pass through it. This was the case with our Lord and His Apostles, as related in the fourth chapter.
