Ἀπὸ τῶν καρπῶν αὐτῶν ἐπιγνώσεσθε αὐτούς. μήτι συλλέγουσιν ἀπὸ ἀκανθῶν σταφυλὴν, ἢ ἀπὸ τριβόλων σῦκα;
By their fruits you will know them. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles?

A Textual Commentary On Matthew 7:16
(a) Tischendorf quotes Peshitta for σταφυλάς in Codices Vaticanus and Sinaiticus, but according to G.H. Gwilliam, the evidence is doubtful, for the plural ܥܢܒܐ may represent the collective force, which σταφυλὴ often has, see Grimm’s (Thayer) and Bloomfield’s Lexicon to the Greek Testament. According to Bloomfield, the reading σταφυλάς was probably from the Itala and Vulgate versions. The singular σταφυλὴν is used for the plural – as in Isa 5:2. It was possibly an Alexandrian Greek idiom.
