That it might be fulfilled what was spoken through Isaiah the Prophet, saying, “He himself took our infirmities, and carried our sicknesses.”

A Textual Commentary On Matthew 8:17

(a) According to Bloomfield, ἀσθενείας relates to the diseases of the soul (not of the mind as most, even orthodox commentators, explain), namely those contracted by sin (see Psa 41:4, Psa 103:3, Psa 147:3), alone to be healed by the great Physician of souls, Jesus Christ; while νόσους relates to the disorders of the body.
