A Textual Commentary On Matthew 10:12

(a) Codex Vaticanus and the Majority, without the addition λέγοντες· εἰρήνη τῷ οἰκῳ τούτῳ in Codices Sinaiticus, Bezae, and Washingtonianus. G.H. Gwilliam is of the opinion that the Peshitta is without the addition in Codex Sinaiticus. The editor is of the opinion that the salutation (ἀσπαζομαι) εἰρήνη τῷ οἰκῳ τούτῳ is a translation of Aramaic original ܫܠܳܡܶܗ ܕ݁ܒ݂ܰܝܬ݁ܳܐ as in Peshitta, and ἀσπάσασθε αὐτὴν is a translation of ܫܐܠܘ as in Peshitta; λέγοντες is required in Greek but not in the original Aramaic of Matthew.
