A Textual Commentary On Matthew 9:5

(a) Peshitta perhaps supports αφιενται of Codex Vaticanus, see Matt 9:2.

(b) Peshitta ܠܟ , σοι as in Textus Receptus.

(c) Ἔγειρε is found in all the uncials except B, and U, and very many minuscules. According to Bloomfield, internal evidence is in favor of ἔγειραι, aorist 1 middle, in a reflexive sense, probably an idiom of ordinary and provincial (Syrian) Greek, and thus likely to be used by St. John, and not unlikely by St. Matthew and St. Mark; but external evidence in almost all the passages calls for ἔγειρε.
